Meet The Team
Brian McCoy, also known as “The Redneck Quilter”, has been quilting for almost 20 years! So don’t let the camo fool ya! He is the owner of Bolts & Quarters Quilt Shop, which has been operational for 5 ½ years and is an 11,000+ facility located at 2595 Dupont Rd in Parkersburg, WV. His shop is now the largest quilt shop in WV and 2nd largest compared to all shops in Ohio. In addition to running his business fulltime and managing 13 employees, he also works fulltime at Ohio University.
Brian is currently the only guy Certified Instructor with Deb Tucker and Studio 180 Design. Brian also likes to design and create one-of-a-kind quilting patterns, which he also sells and teaches as an inherent part of the 200+ classes offered at Bolts & Quarters Quilt Shop every year. In addition to being only one of 2 Handi Quilter and BabyLock dealers in WV, he is also working on building “Beds & Threads Retreat Center”, which will be built adjacent to Bolts & Quarters Quilt Shop, and providing overnight accommodations for up to 50 quilters!
“I wanted to make my first quilting cruise project something to remember this momentous vacation with. In my quilt design, I chose to use bright, colorful and Caribbean-style colors that represent the regions we’ll be visiting.”
Karen Overton is a self proclaimed rambler, hang around her for any amount of time and you will agree! Karen grew up with a grandmother who quilted, but considered herself “just a sewer”. After a friend taught her how to use a rotary cutter back before the turn of the century Karen quickly made a quilt then turned around and taught the ladies of her church! Teaching and quilting just naturally go hand in hand. Karen officially entered the quilting industry in 2003 as a longarm quilter for hire under the name of Quilts ‘N Kaboodle, working out of her home studio on the Texas gulf coast between Houston and Galveston. She rebranded in 2017 to The Quilt Rambler changing her focus from Longarm quilting to focusing on teaching and pattern design.
In 2017 Karen became an Island Batik Ambassador and a Certified Instructor with Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 Design. And the rest, they say is history. In 2019 Karen retired from the Island Batik Ambassador program and is now an Island Batik Designer, offering her pattern designs in the beautiful Island Batik fabrics.
Karen has taught on three quilting cruise events, each with a unique pattern she designed for the event. In 2019 Karen developed her Land Locked Quilting Cruise™ events (same 3 day quilting adventure, minus the ship) and is now adding the option of Onboard Quilting Excursions™ (this cruise – first of many!)
“The combination of The Rambler and The Redneck is guaranteed to be a Texas size epic quilting experience at sea ~ we can hardly wait! Let’s Talk Cruisin’!™
Patti has been quilting for 19 years, having had numerous jobs over that same time period. One of her favorites memories was when she stumbled into a quilt shop to buy a quilt, and the first thing she was told was that the kit was for sale but not the quilt! Patti had no idea where it would lead as she didn’t even know how to work a sewing machine. After several classes she went to work at the same quilt shop. That was in 2000, Patti stayed until 2008 when Hurricane Ike closed the doors of Quilts by The Bay in Galveston. During that time period of working at the quilt shop, Karen and Patti became friends, keeping in touch even when Patti’s job-related adventures took her out of the area for a brief time period.
Coming back to settle in Galveston County , Patti begin working at the Cruise Terminal at the Galveston Port. Patti worked for Carnival Cruise Line for 7 1/2 years, Disney Cruise Line for 3 years, currently working with Intercruises as well as being a representative for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. Her work included assisting cruisers with their embarkment and disembarkment as a Guest Liaison dealing specifically with guests who arrived at the terminal without proper documentation. This led her to becoming a Travel Agent, working with Northcutt Travel Agency specializing in cruises and travel arrangement to and from the Cruise Terminals. Patti loves cruising and helping people. And yes, Patti still finds time to quilt! She is most eager to meet our quilters and help them to have a wonderful vacation.
“I can’t wait to meet one and all on this journey and make new friends. See you soon!”
