Chantilly

Chantilly fabric

Chantilly is a town in France that is historically known for its lace industry. Chantilly is also a featured Island Batik fabric collection during Hancock’s of Paducah’s Batik Week – but wait! There’s more!

Chantilly is a Signature Collection for Karen Overton, The Quilt Rambler, by Kathy Engle of Island Batik! And this week, Hancock’s of Paducah is offering the Chantilly fabric kit & pattern for my design Taking The Long Way Home

I loved working with these lacy purples, pinks, along with the supporting pallet, so much that each one is included in Taking The Long Way Home!  Yes! All 20 fabrics in the collection spin together in a meandering path through blocks of color. The design is based on my desire to inspire quilters to take time to relax and enjoy their quilting journey, perhaps even sharing their quilt on a lazy summer afternoon with friends and family.

In addition to Taking The Long Way Home, another new pattern release by The Quilt Rambler for this collection is Chantilly Garden Rose. Reminiscent of a Victorian garden lined with lattice fencing, Chantilly Garden Rose is designed to encourage the quilter to again pause to take time to stop and smell the roses. There’s just something fresh and lightly romantic about this design, I think it’s the French laid back influence, don’t you?

If you know me, you know I love Island Batik precuts! I am so pleased to say that Chantilly is offered in both 2½” strips and 10” squares.

Recently, I had the desire to do some simple sewing, deciding that I needed to break open a precut package of 2½” Chantilly strips to make a “jelly roll race” quilt…if you are unfamiliar with this style of design there are multiple YouTube tutorials showing how to join the strips end to end and then length wise repeatedly until you have a lap-sized quilt top.

But wait! There’s more!

Once everything was joined together in the traditional style, I took it a step further by cutting the quilt top into long strips to make a bargello style jelly roll race design. Then I added a border, and the quilt top is now a “quilt in waiting” as in waiting to be quilted on the long arm!

This fabric collection has so much to offer with the rich colors and lace designs. I’m considering remaking my pattern Paradise Island in the Chantilly collection… What do you think?

Chantilly yardage and the kit for Taking The Long Way Home can be found at Hancock’s of Paducah. Chantilly precuts are available in The Quilt Rambler online shop, along with my patterns both print and digital download formats.

This is Karen Overton, The Quilt Rambler, asking…

What would you make with these beautiful Island Batik fabrics in the Chantilly collection? Whatever it is, take time to enjoy your creation with family!
