The Quilt Rambler At Sea

It seems like yesterday that we returned from our quilting cruise, but in fact it was yesterday (or the day before) that I returned from my Certified Instructor training with Deb Tucker. Sew many adventures, sew many tales to tell! But let’s play catch up and return to Island Time!

I’m sure you saw a lot of the photos from the Texas our Texas Quilting Cruise with Stitchin Heaven Quilt Shop, but just in case you aren’t a facebook fan I wanted to take a moment and recap my #TheQuiltRamblerAtSea adventures ~ and one of the best ways I could come up with was a fun little vacation slide show…

Kinda old fashioned ~ partly because I haven’t learned how to really construct a movie from photos with audio. Sigh. It’s on my never ending to do list. I hope you will take just a few minutes to watch this “silent movie” as I think it captures the mood and moments really well.

Texas our Texas 2019 Quilting Cruise

As a recap, there were 94 students plus a few non-quilting husbands (one quilting husband ~ Kevin who helped his wife Jane and managed only to be a quilt holder in a photo, as in behind the quilt, instead of IN a photo) and of course the wonderful staff at Stitchin Heaven.

Janice, Karen, Jane (MIA Kevin) and Cindy ~ quilting friends at sea

Our agenda included three quilting instructors with their individual projects for three days of instruction during the days at sea with optional sewing in the evenings and/or the days in port. The students each had their own sewing space for the week with the teachers rotating each class day to the different sewing sections within the large conference area on the ship.

Basically, it was …. quilt, quilt, quilt, eat, quilt, eat some more, quilt, quilt, take an excursion, quilt, quilt, take in an evening show, quilt, quilt, eat, quilt, quilt and maybe sleep!

I dearly love sharing how to use the Studio 180 Design tools, and what a privilege to do so with my own pattern Geese Over Galveston Bay made with the beautiful Island Batik fabric collection British Rose for those who decided to purchase a kit from Stitchin Heaven. What a time saver to have all the fabrics precut into the squares (and a few rectangles) needed for the quilt construction using the Wing Clipper tool. Equally fabulous were the quilters who used their individual fabrics to make beautiful variations of the pattern. I loved it!

I’m surprised that my face didn’t crack with all the smiles and laughter. I can’t thank everyone enough for making this an enjoyable adventure for me. Quilters are the nicest folks! I hope to be able to keep up with my new friends ~ future cruises, workshops, quilt shows (invite me to speak at your guild!) …. wherever quilters gather! Oh! And if you haven’t done so already, now is the time to join the facebook group Tucker Time With The Quilt Rambler for continued eye candy (aka show and tell) of units, blocks and quilts using the Studio 180 Design tools. Let’s Talk Quilts!

By the way, did you see the YouTube video of my studio? Stitchin Heaven’s marketing director contacted me a few weeks before the cruise and asked if I’d share a video. Special thanks to our youngest son for filming the video. We had to make it a “one take” as neither of us know how to edit…. like I said, that’s a future plan! But I hope you enjoy seeing my sewing space!

Stay tuned for the recap from our Certified Instructor training with Deb Tucker…just as soon as I unpack (grin).

This is Karen Overton, The Quilt Rambler, wishing I could be The Quilt Rambler at Sea again soon!
