The Secret is Out!

Introducing Enchanted Stars and Celestial Borealis Twilight – hot off the frame

Back in November, if you remember, I posted several “secret sewing” photos across social media – well dear readers, today is the day to let that secret out! Actually I’m a day late and a dollar short but such is life!

Spring Market 2019

I am priveleged to belong to a group of fabulous designers with Island Batik – this week is Spring Market in Kansas City, the wholesale tradeshow of our industry. I’ve never been able to attend a Spring Market but I’ve been attending Fall Market here in Houston faithfully since 2004. These are just a few of the designers that are in attendance this week. Missing in action is the Studio 180 Design team, myself and a few others – there are about 50 of us, including a couple of certified instructors as well as several Island Batik Ambassadors among this prestigious group of quiliters.

Okay so fast forward in this ramble…several of my friends are in attendance and have been sending photos and/or tagging me on social media….next best thing to being there ~ isn’t modern technology fabulously fun!

Enchanted Stars

When I saw the beautiful fabrics in the Mermaid Cove collection my first thoughts were to make a quilt fit for a mermaid princess ~ at the time of submission our sweet Reagan was still “processing” in the womb, but this quilt was stitched with love as we anticipated the arrival of our first grandchild! I finished it when she was only a few weeks old. It’s made with the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star Ruler. As I mentioned the quilt was pieced during the fall with a deadline to be at the Island Batik home office before the end of 2018 to be photographed and ready for Spring Market…yep, I’ve had to keep a secret a long long time ~ not easy for a rambler that’s for sure! The quilt pattern will be available this fall when the fabrics ship ~ quilt shops are at market this week placing their orders.

Celestial Borealis Twilight

International quilting friends

This one has to be among my top favorite, simply because of the story behind it. As you know I’m a certified instructor with Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 Design, one of 90 from across the world! My friend Liliane Surrenbroek and her friend Irma Eskes from the Netherlands posted a photo on the certified instructor facebook group  of quilts they created together a couple of years ago. I fell in love with the design as did my fellow certified instructor Brian McCoy of Bolts and Quarters Quilt Shop. The ladies were not interested in writing a pattern for these lovelies so Brian and I asked permission to recreate their quilts. It uses the Square Squared, Corner Beam and V Block tools. I call mine Celestial Borealis Twilight and Brian’s is Celestial Borealis Midnight. My quilt debuted at Spring Market this weekend. Again, the pattern won’t be available from either of us until later this year. By the way, Liliane is the one who gave me my “grandma name” of Oma, that’s what grandmothers are called in her country.

Thanks Running with Scissors Gals for the photo at Spring Market

Thanks Chrissy for the photo of Celestial Borealis Twilight at Spring Market 2019 – you’re a great quilt model!

One day Brian and I are going to co-teach our pattern. The Redneck Quilt and The Quilt Rambler have sew much fun when we are together!

Count down to Cruisin

The pattern, Geese Over Galveston Bay, which I am teaching this next week on the quilting cruise debuted at last year’s spring market, sadly the quilt is still on it’s one year shop trunk show tour with Island Batik so I had to remake it for this week’s class sample. Speaking of which, this ramble has to be short ~ I’ve got a cruise to pack for!!!!

The countdown is HERE!

Oh, and did I mention I will have some internet connection on the ship so be sure to follow me on social media (mainly facebook) for The Quilt Rambler At Sea adventures – watch out world, I got a new thingie-ma-gig to take videos with my cellphone!  Click on the photo for a link on Amazon – it’s pretty cool! Talk to you soon!

This is Karen Overton, The Quilt Rambler, thankful for the opportunity to be an Island Batik Designer, and ready (or not) for this upcoming week! Let’s Talk Quilts on a Quilting Cruise!

Thanks Karen! How nice to mention my name as the CI whose quilt was the inspiration for you to design your Celestial Borealis Twilight! I am very interested to have your pattern to show my friends here what came from my quilt!!
