Monday Musings: City Culture 2

When I worked in a quilt shop, back around the turn of the century, I was always delighted when the UPS man wheeled in boxes of new fabrics! We’d almost mow him down to get to the treasure boxes to be the first one to open them up to take a peek!

I can almost guarantee this scenario is being played out across the nation as quilt shops are receiving new fabrics they ordered at the Houston Fall Market 2017. It’s exciting!

Imagine you are opening up boxes … here’s your sneak peak of City Cultures 2, a collection by Bella Nonna Design Studio for Island Batik.

Don’t you just love this collection! As a 2017 Island Batik Ambassador, I had the pleasure of working with this line of fabric for the January Blog Hop – you can read about it by clicking here.

I really appreciated the different colorways in this collection – my ambassador box included the waterfront and industrial districts, which does apply to my little world as I live near Galveston Bay and relatively near the Houston Ship Channel which is part of the Port of Houston, one of the busiest seaports in our nation. The textures on this line of fabric made for a lot of movement in my designs.

To my delight, I had fabric left over and enjoyed making a second quilt that I called Miss October, Geese in The City. I love making flying geese using Deb Tucker’s Wing Clipper ruler.

City Culture 2

A city is very diverse yet united – just think of a city coming together in times of disaster (Hurricane Harvey comes to mind) as well as celebrating together (Go Astros!). I think City Culture 2 reflects this theme very well, the diversity of this line is magically united as all the fabrics play nicely together. There are a lot of patterns that would work with this line from Island Batik. Here are just a few of my favorites that I saw in the Island Batik booth at Fall Market.

I’ve always wanted to make a Tuffet – isn’t it fabulous in City Culture 2!

Funky Friends Factory’s Larry Lion would be a good companion for my Little Lion Judah. I love these City Culture 2 fabric choices!

Stu the Sea Turtle, another Funky Friends Factory pattern, is the perfect colors for my bathroom remodel. I just love the interpretation of the waterfront section of City Culture 2

Happy Camper, a pattern by Bella Nonna Design Studio, speaks to my heart as we are still living in our RV. What fabulous colorways in the City Culture 2 collection

I hope you have enjoyed this sneak peek of City Culture 2 by Bella Nonna Design Studio for Island Batik. Look for this collection at your local quilt shop or shop online with Hancock’s of Paducah. Patterns are available at the following links.

Beautiful quilts, Karen! Since I’m fond of Flying Geese and blues and greens, Miss October stole my heart.

Thanks for visiting the blog Tracie, I’m glad you liked Miss October – did you go back and read the original post from Jan where I talked about her being a happy accident?

Do you use Deb Tucker’s Wing Clipper for your flying geese?
