Monday Musings – Pretty in Pink

Welcome back to Monday Musings…I feel like Rip Van Winkle sometimes waking up in a whole new world realizing I’ve somehow missed out on a  week (or more). My thoughts today are “pretty in pink” as I reflect on this fleeting month of February!

Last week I had grand plans to use my fabric provided by Island Batiks as part of the Ambassador program to make a cute little mug rug for Galentine’s Day…I actually started it a week ago but things sure have a way of escaping me lately!

Little things like beginning reconstruction!!! Yes, the long-awaited event has finally begun. In keeping with my musings of “pretty in pink,” I thought I’d share my goodbyes to my pink sink.

Hurricane Harvey ruined this pretty in pink sink
Goodbye pink kitchen sink – Hurricane Harvey ruined a good relationship – we’ve washed a lot of dishes in 12+ years together.

As sad as it may seem, this is really a time of rejoicing – we are so blessed to be able to make repairs on an older home (and I’m going to get a dishwasher!) – it’s only going up from here! But enough of that, Let’s Talk Quits!

Pretty in Pink

This was the first occasion I had to set up my sewing machine in our 27-foot travel trailer. Ironically I had to do the dishes first so I had countertop area for my Steady Betty pressing board.

Where there’s a will there’s a way! Just enough room next to the sink to fit in a pressing board! Notice the pink rotary cutter!

It goes without saying that I love love love Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 Design tools and techniques – and when I just need a little quilting therapy I gravitate towards the Lemoyne Star. I guess that’s my comfort block.

Chain piecing makes the construction go much faster – ha! just noticed that my nail polish is “pretty in pink” too!

I decided to try out the tool to make the smallest unit – finishing at 3 inches…

Units are oversized and trimmed to perfection with Studio 180 Design tools

In the wink of an eye, I had several units pieced and pressed. Don’t you just love the Island Batik fabrics! I’m so thankful these were provided to me to work on ambassador projects this year.

Pretty in pink – Lemoyne Star units ready to be trimmed and sewn into a block – loving the Island Batik fabrics!!

All too soon my sewing was interrupted. My Galentine’s window of opportunity was overshadowed by the need to deal with all the demolition in the house in preparation for reconstruction. I was so disappointed that I was unable to complete this optional challenge for the Island Batik Ambassadors. Instead, I’ve decided to focus on the main event for this month – the Mini Love challenge, recognizing that I only have a week to complete this. February certainly is a short month – especially when you are eagerly awaiting that first box shipment and people keep coming over to tear up your house!

My studio floor was pretty in pink

So dear quilting friends, I apologize for letting you down during our “week of love” – it’s not for lack of inspiration – who wouldn’t be inspired with all the beautiful Island Batik fabrics calling their name! Now my little Lemoyne Stars are going to become a part of my Mini Love challenge – so stay tuned!

Pretty in Pink – Island Batik fabrics make a beautiful star! Don’t you just love how the Tucker Trimmer 1 helps me trim this beauty to perfection!

This is Karen Overton, The Quilt Rambler, who didn’t realize she had so much pink in her life, but ain’t it grand!

Well, is pink your favorite color??? Certainly appears it is/was *grin*! I have never seen a pink sink before and she’s a beaut – I really like pink too. I’m looking forward to seeing the after pictures of your home and studio, as well as your Mini Love…but not nearly as much as you!!

Actually I never considered myself a pink person – unless it was hot pink or fuchsia ???? I have called purple my favorite color for a long time but have noticed I gravitate towards orange, lime green, or turquoise. Guess I’m just tropical ????. Concerning the pink sink – another friend on FB said she hadn’t seen one either but think about it – back in the 50’s pink and turquoise were popular – think retro appliances that are coming back – apparently the retro pink of my sink was original as this house was built in 1968 ☺️. Thanks for stopping by Susan – always good to hear your thoughts ????

My sweet little granddaughter would LOVE that pink sink!! She’s a pretty in pink girlie girl! Looking forward to seeing your mini love challenge!

It made it more fun to hand wash dishes being pretty ☺️ in the remodel I will have a dishwasher so it’s going to be different! My 81 year old mother is a pink girlie girl – she’s cute and petite – so little girlie girls grow up and continue being girlie girls ????
