Shaded 9 Patch – TnT Workshop

I held a TnT workshop yesterday at TEO’s Treasures Quilt Shop in Dickinson, the second in a series of half day classes featuring “Techniques ‘N Tools” focused on Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 Design tools and technique sheets.

Our workshop focused on making Shaded Nine Patches (S9P) using Deb’s technique sheet by the same name. I had previously used the 6″ finished S9P in my pattern Paradise Island, making placemats from leftover units. These became our “class sample”.

The ladies had choices to make a “checkerboard” effect or scrappy, some working out of their stash with others purchasing new fabrics from TEO’s ~ I love how Sheryl offers my students a discount on class supplies whether that a class in held at her shop or at my studio for one of my Land Locked Quilting Cruise events. It’s great having this working relationship, and even better because I can say we are truly friends – and that’s what quilting is all about, right!

Last month we learned how to use the Tucker Trimmer to make a block called Cyclone. Several of the students are turning their blocks into table runners as my class sample, but as you will see from the photo below, Karen P. is making her Cyclone table runner larger by inserting her Shaded Nine Patch units – can’t wait to see how this turns out!

After it was all said and done I think the ladies were pleased with their results. (PS – notice the quilt in the background – that’s my original Paradise Island, the pattern cover is a remake – I love both versions and actually have a third one planned…we will see…)

Here’s your invitation to join me at our next TnT Workshop where we will be making a table runner using Deb Tucker’s Rapid Fire Hunter’s Star (petite tool) along with the Studio 180 Design pattern of the same name. Several of the students have already chosen their fabrics! Can’t wait! Call the quilt shop to reserve your spot!

Don’t forget to follow me across social media – Facebook, Instagram, YouTube – and remember, I’m a traveling teacher who would love to come to your guild or quilt shop. Let’s Talk Quilts!
