One Monthly Goal – February 2018

Setting just one monthly goal reminds me of “how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!” Well, I don’t think elephants are on my must-try list of weird foods- besides this is a quilting blog (good thing, everyone knows I’m not the gourmet cook in the kitchen!) but the concept of breaking down goals a little at a time is very appealing to me. Once again I’m linking up with Elm Street Quilts for the One Monthly Goal project and setting my February quilting goals!

My One Monthly Goal

In a way I sorta feel like I’m cheating – let me explain. I am a part of the 2018 Island Batik Ambassador program and as an ambassador, I have committed to monthly challenges using fabric provided by Island Batik (and some personal stash of Island Batik – I have a vast collection, as I’ve been purchasing their lovely fabrics for decades – but I digress).

Anyway! The cheating part this month comes in having predetermined projects assigned by Island Batik so I don’t have to think – which is a good thing at the moment as I’m buried in paperwork trying to close out the 2017 books…not to mention the ongoing Harvey recovery…

The Island Batik Ambassadors are actually given an option to participate in a quilted postcard or mug rug for Galentine’s Day, February 13th. You will have to come back to my blog to read more about this little known holiday or visit last year’s blog post where I shared the event at my guild’s sew-in.

I’m going to accept this challenge so my One Monthly Goal for February will be to make either a postcard or a mug rug – haven’t decided yet…but I promise to make it cute!

But Wait – There’s More!

Last year’s Valentine purse made from Island Batik fabrics, with the front being made from a sweetheart candy wrapper.

Even though my time is very limited this month I am so excited about the ambassador challenge of making a mini quilt. I’m excited because it’s like killing two birds with one stone…okay, who came up with all these sayings about animals anyway! I don’t want to add killing a bird to my to-do list either – I prefer to purchase my birds already plucked! Even better if someone else fried that chicken for me and invited me to dinner!

Anway! Back to goal setting. As I was trying to explain before my mind wandered (I must be hungry today or something!) that I’m excited about this challenge because it’s a  mini measuring 24″ x 24″ or less. My local guild, Island Quilter’s Guild of Galveston, has a guild challenge due later in the year that is a “true” mini – meaning their requirements are to make it to scale – kinda like those guys who make model airplanes or model cars or even model trains…I think I can, I think I can…..

Stay tuned to see how the monthly goals progress!

This is Karen Overton, The Quilt Rambler, really wishing I’d picked up a package of Sweethearts at the grocery!

Hope that box gets here soon! I don’t dare add this as my goal, as I am trying to keep up with my UFOs and doing one a month….could be tricky this month. Good luck with your Island Batik pieces, looking forward to seeing them.

It took a while to arrive last year, that’s one reason why the smaller quilts – but it will be here and you can go ahead and add your quilt as a Feb. goal. Glad to know you are working thru UFO’s. I have more than I like to admit – but they come together someday!
